LONG DISTANCE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How do we offer such low rates?
A. Advent is an Interexchange carrier. We buy our network in bulk from a large nationwide network provider. We don't have the high overhead costs and the savings is passed on to the customer.

Q. What are Local Toll calls?
A. Local toll calls may be referred to as regional toll calls. Local toll calls are typically the itemized calls that appear on your local phone bill. Local toll calls span greater distances than local calls, but fall short of being interstate long distance calls. These calls may be in your area code or a different one - across town, or in the next county. Advent Telecom offers one simple, low 4.9 cents per minute flat rate for all your long distance and local toll calls, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no additional monthly fee.

Q. What is the difference between local toll calling and local service?
A. Selecting Advent Telecom to carry your local toll calls will not change your local service. You will still have Ameritech/GTE/Verizone as your basic local carrier. Advent Telecom replaces your existing long distance carrier. Today, some local telephone companies provide you with both local toll calling and local service. Local service includes dial tone service and any non-toll calls made within your local calling area. Selecting Advent Telecom to carry your local toll calls will not affect your local calling area.

Q. How will I know if I'm switched to Advent?
A. You will receive a welcome letter confirming the switch

Q. Are the rates the same for business accounts?
A. Yes, except the monthly fee is $3.95/month plus taxes and regulatory fees. One monthly fee covers all the lines in the business.

Q. What are the minimum billing increments?
A. The length of all your calls are measured (and billed) in 6/6 (6 second minimum then 6 second increments thereafter). The major carriers bill in 1 minute increments. Example: a 5 second call is billed for only 6 seconds or 1/2 cent, the major carriers would have billed the call a full minute, about 10 cents. International is 30 second minimum 6 seconds thereafter.

Q. Does Advent offer calling cards?
A. Yes. The rate is $.10 per minute. There is no connection charge, however there is a $0.50 surcharge when used from a payphone and a $1.00 surcharge for operator assisted calls. There is a $.99 set up fee per card.

Q. Does Advent offer Account Codes (PACs)?
A. Yes. They offer both verified and non-verified Product Account Codes (PACs).
